Event Type:
Webinar
Date:
Wednesday, June 11, 2014 - 3:30pm to 5:00pm

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) recently released a school discipline guidance package to assist states, districts, and schools in developing solutions to enhance school climate and improve discipline policies and practices. The package provides guidance for creating positive, safe school climates, which are critical for boosting student academic achievement and closing achievement gaps.

To increase awareness and understanding of the issues around school discipline and provide practical examples of policies and practices that maintain school and classroom safety while ensuring academic engagement and success for all students, ED and DOJ are hosting the 2014 Supportive School Discipline (SSD) Webinar Series. Webinars in the series are open to anyone and will explore how schools, courts, communities, and law enforcement can work to improve school climate and discipline, using the recently released package as a frame, so that children and youth succeed in school.

This sixth Webinar in the 2014 series, School Discipline Laws and Regulations held on June 11, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. ET. This 90-minute Webinar provides an in-depth review of the Compendium of School Discipline Laws and Regulations, a key document in the recently released School Discipline Guidance Package, and the latest trends in policymaking related to school discipline and implications for implementing new policy at the local level.
